Inner Peace

Accepting Things for What They Are Instead of Resisting Change

“What we see is mainly what we look for.” ~Unknown Years ago I was fortunate enough to travel on a Mediterranean cruise. I had just graduated from college and was in that difficult transition stage where I didn’t know what would come next. I was looking to relax, but also hoping that some soul searching would lead to clarity, epiphanies, and answers. One day I thought I found them on the island of Santorini, Greece. Between the blinding whites, the sapphire blues, the sun-kissed streets, and the black-sand beaches, I felt like I had been dropped ina utopia. There, where everything was crisper and brighter, my mind felt clear and my heart felt hopeful. I suddenly had the feeling I would find my way and all would be right in my world. As I lay on the beach made from volcanic ashes, overflowing with happiness, I knew I wanted to […]

Why Not Me!

Why Not Me!

On April 1, 2013, I celebrated the 45 years of my life on this earth. As the day approached, I began to think about how I wanted to spend my special day…perhaps an intimate gathering in my home or a big party at a nightclub, or just dinner with a few sister friends. After tossing all of those options in the air, I decided that instead of being with others, I preferred to have a little “me time.” Quiet time when I could reflect on my past and think about my present. I decided to spend that time in Anguilla, BWI and that was the best birthday present I could have given to myself. On the morning of my birthday, I opened an email that read, “On your birthday, stop focusing on your age and start meditating on your life at this exact moment. How can you make it better? […]

5 Signs You Need a Break + 5 Things to Do About It

Source: MindBodyGreen.com | By Tina C. Hines | August 16, 2012 Work. Friends. Projects. Errands. Family. Health. Repeat. Life has put a lot on our plates, and it seems to be adding more. It is easy to get caught up in this plight of modern life, but you do not have to. Here are five things that I most typically notice and hear as signs of needing a break, and five ways to remedy them. Signs It’s Time for a Break 1. You dread the alarm clock. Your alarm clock goes off, no matter the hour or day, and all you want is to stay crawled up in bed. 2. Your fuse is short. No matter what someone says, it is not the right thing. You are constantly triggered for arguably no real reason. 3. You avoid what you know you like. You start making excuses for not going to yoga – to that class you […]

Create Your Space of Peace

When you walk into your home, is there a place just for you – a space that has special personal items that you enjoy looking at ever so often? Even if you live alone, have you created a sacred place that you can go to and wind down from the challenges of the day?  If not, then it is time to create your space of peace.      Take a moment to walk around each room of your home. Start with the front of the house and  work your way to the back or up the stairs. Take in every window, corner, the furniture, the organization, the disarray;  take it all in and create a mental picture.  Now retrace your steps, but this time view the rooms with different eyes; eyes that envision the entire room or one of the corners of a room as your space – your space of peace.  Decorate […]

In Search of Inner Peace

In Search of Inner Peace

What if you had given your all to everyone, and nothing was left for you. In a nutshell, you were missing your inner peace. How would you handle it? What if you were told, “You look drained and you need to take some time for you.” What would be your response? What if you went in search of something but had no idea what that something was. Where does your search begin? All of those “what ifs” and many more could be asked of anyone. Oddly enough, everyone’s response may be a little different. Going through the motions of life, there are times when there is so much happening around us that we fail to recognize what was happening on the inside. That is when it is time to step back from life’s challenges, turn off the voices of others and go on a search – a search for inner peace. The […]
